Because I am a Girl is a global initiative to end gender inequality, promote girls’ rights and lift millions of girls – and everyone around them – out of poverty.
Girls in the poorest regions of the world are among the most disadvantaged people on the planet. They are more likely to live in poverty, more likely to be denied access to education, more likely to be denied medical care, and more likely to be malnourished, simply because they’re girls. And yet, studies show that if you give a girl enough to eat, an education and a safe environment, she’ll work to raise the standard of living for herself, her family and her community.

GUERRILLA GIRLS ON TOUR! | look at the current state of women in the arts and beyond.
WHO ARE GUERRILLA GIRLS ON TOUR!
Guerrilla Girls On Tour! is an internationally acclaimed touring, anonymous theatre troupe that creates performances that take a hilarious look at the current state of women in the arts and beyond. Formed when the original Guerrilla Girls split into three groups in 2001, each member of Guerrilla Girls On Tour! performs using the name of a dead woman artist and wears a gorilla mask to conceal her true identity. No one knows who we really are. We have toured through 38 states and 13 countries with over 200 performances and workshops in theatres, classrooms, art galleries, community centers, cafes and the great outdoors. We have been featured in many festivals in the US, UK, Poland, Argentina, South Korea, Spain, Slovenia, Greece, Canada, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, China and France.

Women's Media Center | Amplifying Women's Voices, Changing the Conversation
We are shaken and reeling at the sudden passing of our irreplaceable editor-in-chief, Mary Thom (June 3, 1944—April 26, 2013). Our president Julie Burton says “Mary was one of the great writers, editors, and visionaries of the women’s movement, and the heart and soul of Women’s Media Center’s feature writing. From her work in the early days of Ms. Magazine right up until this week, hers was a clear, strong voice for equality—and her editorial talents lifted so many other voices as well.” Mary, we miss you already. (A statement from WMC co-founders Robin Morgan, Gloria Steinem, and Jane Fonda is available, as is news coverage from The New York Times, AP, and CNN, among others. Information on memorial arrangements to come.)
WomenforRefugeeWomen | "If a few people can speak out, the change will come one day”
About Us
Women for Refugee Women challenges the injustices experienced by women who seek asylum.
Women come to this country fleeing persecution such as arrest and imprisonment. Many of them are also fleeing persecution that is targeted particularly at women, such as rape, forced marriage, honour crimes, and trafficking for forced prostitution.
Our recent research shows that half of women seeking asylum have been raped as part of the persecution they have experienced. Yet the majority of these women are refused asylum.
